SEW DAY

What a fun day we had today.  My Pbees friends and I went to Decherd Needleworks for a fun Sew Day.  We made basket blocks from the Buggy Barn book called "Still Crazy".

We started out by stacking our fabrics and then using a freezer paper template to cut up the stacks.  Then we shifted some of the fabrics from the top stack to the bottom stack until we had a good mixture to make our crazy blocks.

Lots of different styles and tastes in fabrics and we had some interesting blocks at the end of the day.

 

This is the first four of a total of twelve blocks.  Then we will square these up and choose a layout.

That will be in a future post.

NAME-DROPPING FROM AQS QUILT WEEK

It was great to meet so many wonderful people at AQS Quilt Week.  There are those that one reads about and sees a name in print often but never has had the opportunity to meet in person.

I met Bonnie Browning earlier when the AQS team came to Chattanooga for the Site Visits.  I had so much fun chatting and laughing with her throughout our week in Grand Rapids.

These were the days when we were inviting them to "Meet Me There" in Chattanooga.

Upon arrival in the Convention Hall, one of the first persons I met was Meredith Schroeder.  She stopped by our table and welcomed us and introduced herself with her daughter, Lynn.  What a gracious lady!

I first met Jacquie at the first Quilt Con in Austin, TX last February.  We simply picked up our friendship as if we had been seeing each other weekly since then.  What a fun-der-ful gal she is!!

And, of course, Bill Kerr was there teaching classes.  His classroom was directly across from our exhibit booth.  He and I were discussing the Modern Quilt Mystery Quilt that he and Weeks Ringle designed.  I was showing him a photo of my version of their pattern.

 

It was so interesting to discuss the quilt with the designer!  He was complimentary -- of course, he was; he is a gentleman!

AQS QUILT WEEK ARRIVAL

I have just had the pleasure of spending this past week being an exhibitor at AQS QUILT WEEK in Grand Rapids, MI.  Michelle Lawson and I went up to invite all of our quilting friends up in the Northeast, Canada, and across the nation  to come down to Chattanooga in September 2014 to enjoy AQS QUILT WEEK with us.

I love our exhibit!!  Chattanooga at her finest!!  We spent the week pointing out the various points of interest for our expected guests.  Telling them that our town is so pedestrian friendly and that we have so much to do here and great places to eat made me so proud to be representing the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors' Bureau!

IT'S PLAYTIME

I have huge baskets, boxes and bags of scraps.  Some have been sorted into color families; some by style; and some by type of fabric.

I picked up the bag of batiks and started Playtime the other day.  I just wanted to "make something".  I don't have a plan in mind other than to be creative and go at it in an Improv style.

So what happens next??

Put several of these together.

Hmmm, well, I don't know.  Let's just put all of them on the design wall and see what it says.

I think it says, "Need more blocks or some strips".

AQS QUILT WEEK - GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN

It is only one week until we head to the AQS Quilt Week in Grand Rapids, MI.  I am so excited to be going.  Not only do I get to see the show and, perhaps, meet some of the people doing the classes, but I will be working with another quilter, Michelle, in the hospitality/information booth promoting our show.

Chattanooga, TN is host to the AQS Quilt Week in September 2014.  We are so excited to have the show in our city and to share our hospitality with all the quilters and their families.

SOMETHING I AM WORKING ON

I am working on a little project for a talk I am giving this fall.  I chose some really bright colors.

I used a Serpentine stitch that my friend, Pam, mentioned to me at our guild meeting on Saturday.  I discovered that I had this stitch on my Bernina and it was so easy to do it.  Love how it looks.

I will post completed project pictures later when I show the trunk show for the talk I am giving.

TIME TO SAY THANK YOU!!

Our local quilt shop is closing soon and our Chattanooga Modern Quilt Guild has been meeting there since we organized.  It is time for us to look for a new meeting location.

Our leader thought it would be nice if we did a little Thank You Scrapbook for the owner and her staff to show our appreciation and to give them a little remembrance of us.

The leader handed off a tote bag to me with some pics, double-stick tape, and an empty journal book and said "Here you go".  So off I went.

I woke in the middle of the night and had an idea of how to put this together.  This morning I headed to the Studio and stayed there all day producing this little jewel!

After I removed the cellophane wrapping on the cover I discovered some discoloration so I simply used my trusty medium of choice - FABRIC- and set to covering the spots.

I have never been much of a scrapbooker, but I thought to myself that if I took the photos I was given and started searching my stash for fabric I could make some frames and the pictures would be more interesting.  The plan is to pass the journal around and have the members write personal notes to the owner and her staff about our time spent at this shop.  That meant I needed to leave extra negative space for the notes.

On the first page I put the general thank you note from the guild on our guild note card.

Next comes a picture of Janet explaining the Madrona Road Challenge sponsored by Michael Miller Fabrics.  Sharon won the extra blocks from the Madrona Road drawing.

Another challenge that was issued by one of our members, Pam, was the logo block challenge.  We were given packets of fabrics in the logo color palette and asked to make alternate blocks to use in the header on our blog.

I included one of our Information Post Cards that Pam designed for us to use to promote membership.

Several members participated in the Online Modern Quilt Guild Challenge sponsored by AQS and designed by Weeks Ringle.

Our programs this year have come from "Quilting Modern" a book written by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen.  Members have volunteered to present the technique each month.
