ABSTRACTION

INSPIRATION
Tannehill Valley, Alabama

Four of us signed up to do a program on Abstraction for our Chattanooga Modern Quilt Guild.

As we looked for inspiration this covered bridge became the picture we chose.  I was fascintated by some of the angular elements of the bridge and built my sketch piece from that.

My favorite part of this Covered Bridge is the support poles on each side of the opening and the "window openings" along the inside walls.

This is the first piece in this Abstraction process.

This was so much fun!!!  Will continue to play with this.

  1. Nice, Sandy! This is one of the exercises I use in a couple of my classes. Take an image and capture the essence with line and color. Abstraction is a difficult concept for a lot of people.

    1. Rayna, this was so much fun. I am working on a couple more that are even more abstract than this is. Using hand dyed fabric was such a great choice. It gave just the "feel" I wanted.

  2. Nice, Sandy! This is similar to one of the exercises I use in a couple of my classes. Abstraction is not easy for a lot of people.
